We don’t often talk about the good work our clients do (we’ll do more of that in future), but we want to start by introducing you to Sunita Torrance and her performance partner, Daniel Lockett.
Sunita and Daniel are the performers behind the Rainbow Storytime drag queen act in their guise as Coco and Erica Flash.
Working with our partner company, Hemisphere, The PR Company is proud to support the pair with media relations and social media strategies as they take Brian Tamaki and some of his Destiny Church followers to court for defamation, among other charges.
The media has covered much of the actions of Tamaki and his followers when it comes to their vilification of our clients. Some more recent stories about the court case are here and here.
Key themes are that Sunita and Daniel are “targeting our innocent kids with their filth” and they are “indoctrinating, enticing, seducing our vulnerable youth with adultery behaviours”.
We particularly liked this one: They are linked to an “an underground satanic movement to deconstruct civil society, to deliberately eliminate the whole foundations of Christianity”.
Got to give the guy credit for rhetoric. Tamaki’s many ‘sermons’ continue these themes.
So today, papers were filed in the High Court in Auckland on behalf of Sunita and Daniel, and we launched a social media campaign to generate international support from the LGBTQIA+ community, among other right-thinking, anti-hate speech people and organisations.
Obviously, funding is a major issue – High Court actions don’t come cheap!
